Around the World

Around the World is a game that can be played using most subject matter (usually played with math facts) and with any number of children. With sight words, I might have a stack of 10 to 20 word cards (words being learned presently along with past words.) Students stand in a circle. Pick two children standing next to each other to start. Hold up first word - first student to guess word moves to stand beside next student in line. The child that didn't get the word, sits. Play continues with the student who correctly calls out the word traveling to next student; and with me holding up next word. If they should call out word simultaneously, go to another word. Last student standing is the winner. My students and I LOVE this game. It gets them out of their seats but it is controlled and holds their interest.
